Better late than never right? It may be the 11th, but I still wanted to get my goals for the month written down in blog post form, so here I am! I did fairly well with the goals I set for May, although there was definitely room for improvement. I’ve been finding an overarching theme in my goals lately- consistency. I’m not a naturally consistent person. I tend towards grandiose spurts of motivation followed by creative burnout and difficulty accomplishing tasks. Recently I heard a quote that resonated with me: “Don’t rely on motivation, rely on habit.” Habit building is something I want to focus on this month, and I’m finding that it is the most effective way for me to increase my productivity and positive self-development. Read on to see what habits I’m trying to put in place this month!
Habits I’m Focusing on in June
-Build a daily morning and evening routine.
Recently I sat down and just visualized what my ideal morning and evening routine would look like. I can get really focused on work in my day-to-day life, and let it take over, preventing me from pursuing personal goals apart from professional. Implementing a consistent set of habits each morning and evening is a great way to dedicate time to personal goals, and also to make sure certain things are maintained. I’ve started small with my routines, and I’ll be sure to write posts sharing the details if they work out for me!
-Spend 10 minutes tidying every night.
I am not a naturally tidy person. I think it’s part of being a creative individual, but I find that in spite of disorganization being my tendency, I function much better in an organized environment. In the past I’ve found that 10 minutes of tidying before bed really helped me to stay ahead, and it’s something I’m excited to implement again!
-Create a structure for how I create content.
Lately I’ve found it challenging to stay ahead of blogging, Instagram, and YouTube, and I want to set myself a system so I’m not rushing to put something together at the last minute. I love publishing consistently, but that takes working and scheduling ahead of time, and I just haven’t found what works for me quite yet. I’m going to spend some time experimenting this month and see where it takes me!
-Read on a daily basis.
If you keep up with me on YouTube, you know that reading has been something I’ve been trying to focus on this year. For me reading follows the same pattern I mentioned at the beginning of this post: I read or listen to an entire book in a span of two days, and then don’t feel like reading for several weeks. I know I’d get through so much more material and feel better about what I’m feeding my mind by reading small amounts on a daily basis.
And that’s it!
I’m keeping it short and sweet this month, but I’d love to know if you have any habits you are trying to build at the moment. Feel free to let me know in a comment, and happy June!
I think after vacation in a few weeks I’m going to go through MuchelleB’s Reset Your Life Challenge on YouTube. I did it at the beginning of the year, and she mentioned doing it at the half-year in one of her recent videos. I’ve been slipping down on motivation, so I think I need a reset overall.
I’ll have to look into that! I’ve watched some of her videos in the past, but I haven’t done that challenge before. Mid year is a great time for something like that!
