One of my favorite summer outfit combinations is a basic top tucked into a bold patterned skirt. It’s a little bit vintage-inspired, but so comfortable for the warm weather! I often get asked about my favorite styles of tops to wear with skirts, so today I have created a list of five basic top styles to wear with skirts this summer. When choosing a top to wear with a skirt, I usually look for a solid color, but don’t shy away from embellishment or embroidery. If you’ve been looking for a top to pair with your favorite summer skirt, I hope you find this list helpful!
An off the shoulder sweater.
This fitted sweater from Anthropologie is available in several colors, and is the perfect piece for a classic outfit. The style reminds me a lot of the designs of the 1950s, and the color options make it a wonderful choice to add versatility to your wardrobe. This top would also be great to carry over into the fall and winter.
A vintage sweater tee.
I recently picked up this darling sweater tee from Madewell (you can see how I styled it in this post!) and it is such a great basic. I love the texture, and the cream color is lovely and a bit unique. The style is very reminiscent of the vintage eras, and it tucks into my skirts perfectly. This style is currently on sale, and available in several colors.
A ballet wrap top.
A piece that I’ve had on my wardrobe wishlist for a while is a ballet-style wrap top, and this one from Reformation is lovely. I like the cropped length making it ideal for pairing with high-waisted skirts. The ribbed knit adds some texture, and it is available in black, cream, and red.
An embroidered cotton blouse.
When it comes to tops with beautiful detailing, I always look to Sezane. Their embroidered pieces are just beautiful, and the quality is amazing. This embroidered blouse features ruffle sleeves and a peplum hem. It would be adorable with jeans or tucked into your favorite skirt.
A chic graphic tee.
If your style is a little more casual, consider a cute graphic tee! I love the designs from Sol Angeles, a made in America brand available at Anthropologie. This particular design features the word merci in a bold floral pattern.
