Thrift Store Style: Classics for Summer

Building my Wardrobe

Whenever I’m asked what the best place to start at is when it comes to thrifting, I’m always quick to respond with “thrift the classics.” You know, the great button down blouse, striped tee shirt, little black dress, etc. Timeless pieces are easy to come by at thrift and second hand stores in a variety of sizes, colors, and styles. And in the accessory department, I love to check out Etsy and eBay for vintage options. You would be surprised at the prices you can find on designer items from a few decades back, and the quality and timeless styles mean they will last you for years to come. Everything in this outfit is second hand, but I’ll link to some similar pieces at the end of the post, including some vintage Chanel shoes!

My top and trousers are both Goodwill finds. I love the cheery red color of the striped top, originally from J. Crew, and I think it pairs perfectly with white pants, originally from Ann Taylor. These white pants are made out of soft white linen, and have the cutest nautical details. They do remind me a bit of Gilligan’s Island, but I’ve already found myself reaching for them a lot this summer. I paired this combination with some of my favorite accessories. My vintage Coach bag dates from the 1980s, and I purchased it from Dear Golden Vintage on Etsy. A quick search of “vintage Coach bag” brings up a host of other options on Etsy, and I’m hoping to add a cream colored one to my wardrobe in the future. My shoes are vintage Chanel, and I found them on eBay for a steal because they had been resoled. Chanel shoes have maintained a similar style for decades, so it’s worth it to look into vintage items if you love the look.
